The next Beer Tie is coming up next Monday, March 14 from 7-9PM (bar opens at 6) in the Sandbar at Whitlow's on Wilson. If you haven't been before this is close to the Clarendon Metro Station in Arlington, and there are plenty of nearby parking garages as well as street parking. Rob Snowhite will be teaching Shad Puffs at the beginners table, and we have all vises and materials for this. If you have your own kit, we encourage you to bring equipment to tie shad flies and donate them to Friends of Fletcher's Cove for future fundraising efforts.

In honor of the shad returning soon (March 19 precisely), we will be doing a huge raffle with all proceeds going to Friends of Fletcher's Cove (FFC). FFC has the goal of fixing the long term sedimentation problem at Fletcher's Cove, some of you heard some information from Mike Bailey at last month's Beer Tie. For the raffle, we have the following products:
1. St. Croix Imperial 9' 6 wt inscribed with "Handcrafted for Friends of Fletchers Cove 2016". If you pick up a 200-250 grain sinking line, this is a great rod for shad, and with floating line you'll be dialed in for smallmouth, largemouth, carp and streamer fishing for trout.
2. A custom built 9' 4wt by IFFF CCI Carl Zmola. This is really a sweet stick!
3. Four tickets to the Fly Fishing Film Tour held on March 23, donated by Richie Farino
4. A selection of books from Namfos: http://www.flickr.com/gp/81707996@N00/Bm74R7 - those Traver books are classics and the Entirely Synthetic Fish will make you second guess fishing stocker streams
5. Any other donations you bring us (working on some shad fly assortments)

We will also be selling TPFR hats and t-shirts for $20 each, these tees are long sleeve polyester fishing shirts that will have you dialed in all year

Thanks for all of the support and we look forward to helping FFC raise some coin to help restore our river!

I have a few dozen shad flies in a Cliff Box that Tommy Mattioli was generous enough to make for TPFR and friends of Fletchers Cove.

I also have some paired duck wings, Pheasant tails and turky quills for the raffle.

I won't be able to make this meeting (3rd miss in a row :-[ ) - is there another way I can donate some shad flies? I can tie some red white and blue ones. Figure American colors for American shad right? Untested in the water but I think they'd work, but not sure if they'd be wanted or not.

Andrew,

We don't have a strict deadline for the flies right now, we can probably get them at the next Beer Tie and I know the Orvis stores in Bethesda and Tyson's coupd take them for us. If you want to mail them, I can send you my address, or FFC may be able to handle the mailings.

Others, looking forward to Beer Tie tomorrow. I'm stuck in Chicago tonight with a cancelled flight but if all goes to plan I'll be at DCA by 6PM and at Whitlows around 7 tomorrow.

Thanks everyone for the generosity and amazing turnout, we completely crushed my expectations last night selling $725 of raffle tickets, with all proceeds going to Friends of Fletcher's Cove. We are helping chip away at their goal for phase one of the project, and helping spread the word of the siltation issue at the cove. We are also working on other fundraising options that can bring in some bigger chunks change.

We'd especially like to thank those who donated raffle prizes:
St. Croix for the 9' 6wt Imperial fly rod
Carl Zmola for the custom 9' 4wt fly rod
Art Noglak of Orvis Tyson's for donating the Lamson and Orvis reels and fly tying materials
Richie Farino, now of District Angling, for the Fly Fishing Film Tour tickets
Kevin Eichinger from Kenmore Fly Shop for the shad fly kits
Tommy Mattioli for the Clif box full of shad flies
Mark Sofman for the books
Rob Snowhite for the various schwag
Misha Gill for the flies
Anyone else, if I missed you let me know

And thanks to all of you that donated flies to FFC as well to help with their future fundraising efforts. These will be used to sweeten the deal on personal donations to the cause, with a minimum donation getting a half dozen or so shad flies.

Thanks a ton, I'm more proud than ever to be a part of TPFR!

Dalton
