Marek Rich and I (the Hobart guys) went out out Friday to Weverton on TPFR's namesake.  I practiced flyfishing insanity by doing the same thing over and over again expecting things to turn our differently: casting a Betts popper on a bright sunny day. I caught smallies, not a lot of them nor very big ones but every single one was fun, and it enabled me to break my uninterrupted streak of home water skunkings that WAS 2015.

FWIW, air temp was close to 90F, water temp was 72F according to the fishing thermometer I found (and added to my gear). All around an excellent day with excellent company. Just two things might have made it better: overcast skies and the balance of a gymnast....;-)

Nice Mark -- that picture in the left column illustrates something I fear doing now, which is deep wading ;).  I was thinking the river was pretty low and probably would be good to fish.

BTW -- I still owe you a beer.  I had to miss last tie to help Beth....but we'll make the next one hopefully.

Gage at Point of Rocks the night before said 1.3 - which is quite low. Aiding bi-pedal navigation, as well as slipping, sliding and a couple of partial dunks was excellent water clarity. From personal experience, vibram soles with studs are not as good as felt soles, but I am unwilling to risk a huge fine from Md. DNR. I hear you re: deep wading. You could always wear a PFD, either inflatable or a kayak fishing number. I for one wouldn't blame you.

Today, right now on Monday with the overcast skies would be an excellent time to be astream for smallmouth on the Potomac.  PofRs gage is between .9 and 1.0 at the moment. SMB are probably smashing all topwater presentations.

I'll give you a heads up the next time I'm heading out there if you like.

Some nice pics per usual which explained the balance thing. I thought you would have taken the new yak. That's a tough area to wade and cover much water.

There's a launch spot a short ways upstream I can share that you might want to check out.

Thanks. My fishing companion lacks a watercraft. Water was low and clear enough for wading (cautiously). Without knowing your launch point in relation to Keep Tryst, I'd say it's a long damn way to to the river hauling a 50 pound boat even on wheels. We started at Knoxville falls and worked up to Weverton Rapids - all in all about 8 hours on the river. Long day. I'm still tired. ;-) If I make it up there again with my boat, I may put in at Brunswick or Lander, paddle up and drift/fish down.
