DIY Nassau fishing

I was thinking about taking my 8 wt to Nassau and just go fishing.  I can't afford a guide and probably not even a hotel but it is a 3 hour flight and I have some free time.  So, is it even possible to go without a guide?  Are there places on that island to fish?  Licenses?  I don't really care what I catch since I have only fished the salt a handful of times.

Can't help on Nassau, but www.threebone.com has a lot of local info on DIY keys bones. A lot of it is gearing for folks who basically want to fly into Miami, rent a car, and hit the water. It is kind of the ultimate spot burning on roadside-accessible bone flats in SoFla/Keys.
