My fiance and I are headed to Alaska this summer and we're planning to do a full day guided trip for Sockeye on the Kenai or Russian Rivers. It will be her first time swinging a fly. Does anyone have any recommendations for outfitters or guides?

Thanks,
Ethan

Alaska Troutfitters.

I wouldn't spend money on a guide if you plan to fish the russian unless you need someone to chase the bears.  Its a small river and easy to figure out on your own.

I went with the Drifters Lodge - https://www.drifterslodge.com/about-us/  for my dad's birthday. he turned 80 - something. didn't swing but fished out of a motorized drift boat with indicator and bead setups on Glooms NRX 10ft 7wts.  \He caught a massive rainbow, probably around 30 inches as that was our target fish. it was great fun, guide essentially shook off any fish under 26 inches and we caught a ton of rainbows over 20 as well as some massive char, too. but he grinded it out until we found the trophy rainbow as that is what we were paying him for. very good work ethic.

i would recommend that over a sockeye trip. from talking to the guide he said the sockeye don't really eat and even when swinging flies they are practically just flossing them.  I am sure either would be fun though!

I fished the Kensington with Mike Adams from Alaskan Angling Adventures out of Cooper Landing a few years back. I’d highly recommend him:

Mark from Alaska Fishology is great to work with and one of his guides Chase is particularly knowledgeable. They do fly and spin.     https://akfishology.com/

Hi All,
I am hoping if anyone can give recommendations on a guide for 2 days trip to hunt for tarpons in Islamorada. I contacted Jared Raskob but he is so expensive and booked.
Also, anyone know if end of June to first week of July good for tarpon fishing?
thx
Alex

I'm fishing out of islamorada  next week with a guide I have never fished with.  If he is good i will post.

I know raskob is expensive but I know someone who fished with him a few weeks ago and said he was REALLY good.  This guy has fished down there a lot and he said raskob had him doing stuff that he had never seen.   That said, I honestly don't know how the keys guides haven't priced themselves out of business but like you said he is booked so the demand must be there.

End of June/July is past peak but there should still be fish around.  The Gold Cup is at the end of June if that is any indication.
