Hello, Thanks Dan for the info about the group today! My name is Mitch and I am new to the area (living in Arlington). Im coming from KY so moving to a new area not knowing any good spots has been a tough but fun challenge. I had a great talk with Dan today at orvis getting me started but I still wanted to post to the group. I am looking for some good spots to ledge fish/wade in the area. Would love some suggestions that I can start to try out, specifically locations like where to park/where to walk to. I dont have a kayak/boat with me due to my move, so any tips with relatively easy access locations would be awesome! Thanks and much appreciated!

Hi Mitchell -- Welcome!  Definitely read up as Mark suggested.  You could also probably punch in "new to DC" or something into the search box and get a lot of hits.  I was just going to add that depending upon what you mean by "good spots", there are numerous places within 1-2 hours of DC that offer excellent fishing.  I own MD and VA licenses for that very reason ;).  Everyone has a preference -- some people only want to go after big fish by driving 8-10 hours away and seldom fish around here, some prefer tiny, brushy streams with tiny brook trout, there are some carp specialists, striper fans, smallmouth, and others pretty much only fly fish for trout.

I don't know what's available in KY, but native brook trout over in Shenandoah is a unique, regional thing you should check out.  There's good fishing for warm water species along the James, Shenandoah (the river, not the park), and upper Potomac.....basically just come to the beer tie this Monday over at Whitlow's and you'll pick up all kinds of tidbits.

Mitchell,

If you (or anyone else for that matter) would like to give Yak fishing a try, I have a Jackson Cuda 12 and Nucanoe Frontier 12 to take out. Unfortunately, I can't paddle them both myself!

Cheers,
Derek

The fly fishing guide to VA is an awsome resource and can be found at any one of the local fly shops in the area or you can get a copy online.
