Happy almost Friday - -

Anyone have experience with the Lehigh River up in the Poconos?  Heading up there this weekend and thinking of dropping a line - - It is a tailwater so hopefully tomorrow's rains don't make too much of a mess.  Any tips/tricks or recommendations for shops, other fishing in that neck of the woods would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks

Bill,

I have family up there but have not fished the area.  I know there is a great shop in Blakeslee, and there's a private section of water just down the road from the shop that is supposed to be full or monster wild brown trout.  As I'm not a member I cannot verify.  I think it's called the Dream Mile.

I like the guys at Evening Hatch, but not sure if you’ll be in their vicinity.

Bill,
The Lehigh is a tailwater, but the flows are regulated for rafting and not fishing.  Check the flows for the Francis E. Walter Dam.  Rain will affect the flows too, because there are so many spring creeks that flow into the Lehigh.  On the other hand, this keeps the water cold all the way down to Slatington when the flows are normal.  I've heard news of good hatches on most of the northern part throughout the year.  You can access the river almost anywhere, due to the D&L bike trail that follows most of it.  Just be very careful, the river bottom is mostly slippery rocks.

Where in the area will you be?
Not sure about that miracle mile, been fishing in the area for 6 years and never heard of it.

The “great shop in Blakeslee” is the Evening Hatch. And I can confirm the “full of monster trout” comment from personal experience!

I’m kinda spoiled, Jason. My in-laws own a place on Jack Frost and I fish some of the private water on the Tobyhanna. From Rte 940 almost to the dam is pretty spectacular fishing. The guys at the Evening Hatch always point me in the right direction armed with the right fly’s.
