You can do a float trip down the Kenai -- highly recommended.

If your son wants to self guide, or has time after the float, he can do the following:
- fish Quartz creek for Dolly Varden behind the spawning sockeyes.  Quartz creek is the creek right beside the road as you drive from the Seward highway to the Kenai lake.  Egg flies are the go.
- fish the Russian river for Rainbows and Dolly Varden.  I think the sockeye run is almost over, but there may be a few stragglers.  The secret is to target the silver fish and avoid the red spawners.  Egg flies or nymphs for the rainbows, smaller salmon flies for the sockeyes.  Use lots of lead to get flies down deep for the rainbows -- dont be subtle.

I will second the Kenai.  Found some hog sized rainbows on what they called a flesh fly.  First time a bow took me to backing was in that river.
