Wounded Warrior Fishing Event at Fletchers Boathouse

I'm organizing a wounded warrior fishing event at Fletchers on Friday, April 25, 2014.  The organization is www.fishingcommunity.org, which is a nonprofit that is 100% volunteer effort.  We have done a  number of events and fishing classes at Fort  Belvoir and Lake of hte Woods, both fly fishing and spin fishing. 

 

I'd be happy to provide info to anyone interested - there are both planning and day of event volunteer opportunities, and we're organizing sponsorships as well.

I'm a intermediate angler but would like to help out in any way I can.  I've volunteered as a River Helper for Casting for Recovery many times in the past.

What I was trying to say was that I am in the same position as Brian.  I would like to help out and would love to fish with them, but I don't know if I would be that helpful to them.  I can teach them how to put knots in there leader, but I'm not sure what else.  :)

Thank you Brian.  This is the inaugural launch of this event we hope to make an annual occurrance, so we're feeling our way forward a little, but here are some of the areas where we'll need help.  Call or email me if you have ideas or suggestions. 

 

Pre-event volunteering opportunities:

     1.  Advisory board:  we're still building our advisory board of people who want to help www.fishingcommunity.org grow and do more events

     2.  Sponsorhsip:  We're looking for sponsors who want to help, both on a monetary and inkind basis

     3.  Planning committee:  There are a million details to plan for

     4.  Shad fly tying/donation:  We're likely going to use a fair number of flies during the event

 

 

 

Day of Event opportunities:  (Friday, April 25)

     1.   Fish/guid/row with a wounded warrior and family (spin and fly fish - part day or whole day)

     2.  On shore activities (TBD - but support, fly tying demo, fly casting lessons, shad clinic are examples)

     3.  Support activities - parking, food, music, gear, and a number of other items

     4.  Other support activities that we haven't figured out

We are approaching our www.fishingcommunity.org event for Friday, April 25, 2014.  We expect a good number of veterans and volunteers, but if you are interested in helping or donating, send me an email or give me a call.  We had a good practice day on the 12th with several volunteers.  If you are out on the water that day, and can point some of our participatnts to a good spot, they'd be appreciative. 

 

We also do fishing days and fishing classes at Fort Belvoir from April to October, and welcome volunteers.
