Long time lurker, first time poster.

I'm on 5 weeks of paternity leave after my wife went back to work, and I'm hoping to combine hanging with my 3 month old with fishing. She's very solid in a carrier for a couple of hours. Assuming the weather cooperates, any suggestions on places that are easy to access by foot and within an hour driving distance from DC? Not looking for big or fancy fish - I'd be happy to just pull a couple of sunfish.

Thanks!

Seems like an easy way to put a stray hook in an infants head.

Virginia was a bit older at that time with a different style carrier, but it's the right time of year for this.

Check out Clopper Lake in Gaithersburg.  I went a couple of days ago on a lunch hour and took a yellow perch and some bluegill.  I parked by the playground.  The bluegill were in the shallows where it's warmer.  I saw some bass on the prowl, but they spooked fast in the low, clear water.

I'd also walk the C&O Canal in any of a number of places.

Widewater on the C&O Canal - parking at Anglers during the week will be a lot easier than weekends.

Cook Lake in Alexandria is very accessible, and gets stocked with trout later in the year.

Don't worry, we keep her completely covered in bubble wrap and Kevlar so nothing can hurt her. ;)
