Anybody have any current info on fishing the Violette's Lock (23) area of the canal and/or Potomac? A friend and I are planning on fishing it Sunday 6:30AM.

Any pointers on technique, flies, equipment is appreciated.

Thanks,
Bryan

Interested to hear how the fishing was. I am headed there tomorrow morning.

I fished the bottom of Seneca breaks today and right below the water treatment plant up from riverbend this weekend. All my luck was near current and cover. I was in my kayak. Pulled a couple nice ones out from under a log jam, neck deep slack water, but within 50 feet of current. bite was soft, almost reluctant.

As my rule of thumb I use Point of Rocks gage. If < 2.25 and dropping probably safe.  < than 2, say 1.75 is even better. And as I type 1.31 - should be safe. Still, use a wading staff.

Also, try to use your initial "feel" when looking at the water.  I used to be kind of dumb about trying to wade in high, or even dangerous water.  Over time I learned, but in general if you look and have even a suspicion of either dying or losing hemostats, don't do it.
