Just read a post from last month on Steve Zakur's blog, Sipping Emergers (noncommercial link: http://www.sippingemergers.com/2013/12/mobile-water.html), that USGS has a mobile site that lets you access stream gages (yes, that's the way USGS spells it) from a mobile phone and to set favorites. The site is http://m.waterdata.usgs.gov/. Hope you find it useful.

USGS will also send text messages to your phone about gage readings (falling/rising).
