I'm planning to go chase some carp tomorrow, around lock 7. I haven't been at all this year. Have any of you been recently, especially after all the rain? I'm just trying to gauge how high and clear the water is likely to be. Thanks!

I got a quick glimpse of the area around Lock 7 as I drove by today, and it looked significantly more muddier than usual.

I was up there a few weeks ago, clarity was alright in spots, but parts of the canal are super weedy right now. Managed one carp. My favorite spots have been muddy since early spring.

We checked out the canal north from Chain Bridge a little ways yesterday evening. It was fairly murky. Saw one guy with a spin rod who didn’t seem to be having any luck.

Ran along the canal for about five miles from Fletcher's up. It looked horrible. Super muddy around chain bridge and then overgrown with weeds most the the way up. There were a spot of two maybe 50 yards long that had open water among the weeds and I didn't see a couple carp. This was a little over three miles above Fletcher's. I have no idea where lock 7 is.

The national parks service drained it a while back to do lock repairs. The NPS website says it was drained from Fletchers Cove down to Georgetown, but I reckon they went upstream a bit further ‘cos I was at fletchers yesterday and the canal seemed drained a good way further north.

I don’t know what lock they stopped the drainage at.
