You know what gets me about that article – the dam operators couldn’t figure out how to run the fish elevator w/o risk to the dam workers. Really? How is it that virtually all other industries have mastered the gloves, masks, handwashing and social distancing precautions needed but Exelon Corp. just can’t put 2 and 2 together?

Frustrating.

Esp. because I just recently finished reading Running Silver: https://www.amazon.com/Running-Silver-Restoring-Atlantic-Migrations/dp/0762780592/

I'm with you re the COVID precautions. A company of that size and regulated at state and federal level with the resources to have fully trained and competent EHS staff...it all looks like stalling something they didn't want to do or spend money on. It's a chickenshit move, IMO.

I think it's just inevitable that Northern Snakeheads are not going away.  If they've found them above the dam there's more that they haven't found.  The Susquehanna is a huge and long river that reaches all the way up into NY state.  imagine if snakeheads got all the way up there.  I'd worry more if it was Asian carp than snakes.  There are so many snakeheads around the dmv and i don't see the massive impact on fish species that was once claimed.  Also, they are all around the Delaware watershed.  At least the lower part of the river.  I don't know how far up they go into that river.  But imagine if you were fishing the west branch and you catch a snakehead.  Crazy.

Snakeheads are not going away in Virginia. DGIF is tracking its progress and distribution with the help of people who catch them providing catch reports.

One DGIF Biologist told me for Virginia the Snakeheads haven't turned out to be as destructive as first feared. The fish population seems to have found its own equilibrium with them in the mix.

Virginia DGIF has acknowledged their presence by including them in the recently published "Fresh Water Fishes of Virginia".

Anyone know the furthest up the Rappahannock a snakehead has been caught? That river is infested with them in Fredericksburg.

Try this site for a visual. Not sure when last updated. Most of the links providing more details aren't working.

What flies are people throwing to snakeheads these days?

I’ve caught one on a frog, one on a Gar Clouser, a few on my big worm, and a few on the one with the ultra suede curly tail.

I caught a pretty good one last summer on a yellow Boogle Bug. But that was luck vs strategy on my part. I noticed on YouTube a lot of the folks using conventional gear go with top water presentations.

I can't believe the author argued that flatheads haven't caused any problems. They've decimated panfish populations in the Susquehanna, particularly rock bass. And they basically took over the lower Schuylkill River which at one time was another great smallmouth fishery. Jury is still out on snakeheads, but comparing them to flatheads certainly doesn't make me feel any better about them.
