Took a little break at lunch today and fished the duck pond about 2 hours after low at National Airport.  Actually fished from the bridge overlooking the culvert.  The south side eddy had big splashes all over and this guy was one of the schoolie crew busting up bait.

I had a couple of takes and broke one off when he got into the current.

On the north side there were little largemouth chasing bait and got one of those as well.

Jeff "carpking" Silvan-Note the trailer fly, its one of yours.

That's a bulky mr pajama pant. It's well fed. Good work on a sunny day too!

Nice fish! I've yet to get a striper of any size in this area.

And I like the fly ;-)

What kind of line were you using?

7wt intermediate clear sinking.  casting a variety of ways, all from on top of the bridge:

1-south corner closest to the bank dropped line in water and let current carry into seam
2-mid to north side bridge cast under over hanging tree, let current push flies past eddy hoping to get hit
3-same as 3, fed lots of line into water and retrieved in different ways jigging, regular, etc.

Got hits on all three.

I cast across the culvert from the north bank but not sure that the fly drifted where i wanted it to because of the current.

Thinking about bringing my tree pruning gear to cut (and retrieve) the mono that was hanging from the tree.  It messed up my loops.

FWIW I decided that clear intermediate will be staying on my 7wt going forward.  I don't really need floating line because I am not looking for dry fly trout action.  The intermediate can be stripped and keep the fly higher in the water column if needed or can be paused to let it sink.  The majority of where I fish the 7wt (Potomac and wet wading salt water locations, ie water < waste high) this line is preferred.

If I ever got to go flats bone fishing I guess I would change it out.

Two more questions, if you don't mind:
1. With intermediate line, do you use weighted or unweighted flies?
2. Does anyone know if intermediate line can go bad? I know when floating line gets old it often doesn't float any more. I took out my intermediate line that I hadn't used in a while and noticed that it didn't seem to be sinking all that well! Instead of, say, 1 inch per second, it was more like 1 inch per 10 seconds. That doesn't seem right, does it?

You can use either. I fish an intermediate with clousers for stripers which are unweighted and use the same line for brook trout with leech patterns that are not weighted. Whatever fly you want to use other than dries are fine.

It can "go bad" but i don't know why it would stop sinking.
