Hi everyone,
I’m new here. I’ve relocated from SC. I have been fishing my whole life and have flyfished for around 25 years. I have been fishing the Potomac heavily since I’ve been here so I thought I would start posting my experiences. This is an amazing fishery.
Anyways, nice to meet everyone.
This morning I arrived at Gravelly Point around 4:30 AM and fished the tide change. I caught 5 schoolies until first light and the tide got slack. I have found the outgoing to definitely be better but my observation is that the fish will eat in there as long as the water is moving . I caught the first 2 on a chartreuse half and half and the next 3 on a Puglisi style Peanut Butter. All in the 12-16 inch range. Looking forward to a cold snap here pretty soon.

Is the parking lot open at that hour? Also, hate to bring up the subject but is wading required to get a good cast there?

Thanks

I believe the parking lot is technically open 6 am to 10 pm.  For all intents and purposes you need to wade.  There is one small spot where you can stand and cast if you are a lefty, but other than that you need to get into the water.

How is the water at the moment? I was there a few weeks back and decided to leave because of all the weeds and algae.

Respectfully,

I park across the street at Roaches Run in the morning. For line I use an intermediate there to avoid algae etc. The intermediate works better than a sinking line for the presentations there in my opinion. I think you could probably get away with a floating line if you put some weight in your fly a couple hours around low.
