Just wanted to send a big thanks to everyone at the beer tie tonight for making a newbie to DC feel really welcome! I only moved here from Boston six weeks ago, but already feel right at home thanks to the great fly fishing community y'all have going here. And I've definitely gotten sucked into fly-tying thanks to Rob's great work at the beginners' table. Looking forward to seeing folks again in January, and hitting the water in spring! In the meantime, if folks have tips or suggestions for getting acclimated to DMV fly fishing, feel free to send them along.

Oh, there's nothing like hitting the DMV in the DC area.  People from all walks of life, roaming around mumbling things to no one in particular, kids screaming and biting each other, loose change spilling across the floor - it's awesome.

The best advice I have is when they won't register your trailer because you don't have enough forms of ID (or whatever), you start slamming your papers around, yelling, throwing your arms up, etc. because they're not used to seeing that at the DMV and will be intimidated into giving you what you want!  It works with cops too.

Welcome ;).  You can do a lot with a 5-weight around here -- you need to put that thing to use!

You're off to a much better start to the adjustment to DC fishing than I. It took me about 4 years of living around here to both discover the club and discover there was actually good fishing in the area. The best way to figure out this area though is to just read the forums, search them a little, ask questions, and twist people's arms to let you tag along. It usually doesn't take much twisting.

Logan, it was a pleasure meeting you the other night. We need more women involved in the club. Always glad to help newbies, it can be a steep learning curv.
