I'm headed down there in March for a few days, was thinking of taking my rod/kit with me.

I know they have good fishing down there and of course you can pay out the nose for a guided fishing trip (it's Disney of course...nothing is free).

Just thought I would ask if anyone went out on their own down there.

Cheers
Collin

Keep a close eye out for alligators.

I went probably 15 years ago with my Dad on a guided fishing trip at Disney. We fished out of a pontoon boat, the fishing was pretty good for bass and bluegills if I remember correctly, but not amazing. There is great bass and bluegill fishing nearby in Kississme and near Mount Dora etc. Any of the many many chains of lakes down there will have solid bass fishing and definitely worth checking out. The natural spring lakes and rivers are pretty amazing to see too, but can be tough to fish cause they are soooooo clear.

Drive an hour and 15 minutes east to the Mosquito Lagoon.  Yes, you’re paying for a guide but you’re going to have a fun time.

To add on to what Richie said, it sounds like Mosquito Lagoon has been fishing really well.

A guy I used to work with also guides down there and his reports from late have been very promising.

Has Mosquito Lagoon still been fishing well the past couple years? I read that the issues Indian River was having with algae and pollution from all the farming discharge was significantly hampering the Mosquito Lagoon fishery.

The fish kills happened a lot further south.  The water coming in from Ponce inlet keeps the north end of the lagoon fresher than the southern end, where the water is fed by the Haulover canal.

If you are just looking to wet a line, there are places around mosquito lagoon that are wadeable.  You probably won't do anywhere near as well as if you had a guide/.boat, but I have done it and caught speckled trout and lady fish by wading.
