Thanks, Mark.  Offerings in JoAnnes were suede on one side and fabric on the other, so I chose to buy some from Pat Cohen and dabble.

Ultrasuede: You can usually find some remnants at G Street Fabrics or similar fabric store, Carl. usually a minimum of a yard to purchase - it's a lot of fabric. Color selection might be limited on the remnant table stuff, too.

Lots of furniture makers will send you a free sample or two of ultrasuede, for a nominal shipping charge. It's typically a 4 x 6 or so sheet, enough for several flies depending on the pattern.

Count the number of claws you get for each free piece (for a nominal shipping charge) and I believe you'll find buying precut claws is less expensive.

I didn't see that it was for clawdads either.

I think I paid a buck to ship my samples - and it was two pieces. I was using them for frog legs. I posted about it a while back - search the forum for 'ultrasuede'.
