Thought I would post the results of my trip.  Weather was awesome...70's.  Fished for two evenings and morning periods in one of the local golf course ponds just down the street from the rent-in-laws house near West Pam Beach.  Various top lures used.  I caught a few more fish than these photos.  My last cast on the final morning, some huge monster came up and took my popper and headed back under cover...snapped the lure right off the line.  Nice way to end this small excursion.  No issues getting my fly gear through TSA, just expect them to pull out your tackle and take a gander through it (West Palm did that, DCA did not).

Now just waiting for the warm weather to show up here in DC.

Cheers
Collin

Well, you're going to have to return to get the one that broke you off. Next time retie all your knots for the "last cast."

Love me some big largemouths on a fly rod!

I grew up in Pensacola, Florida fly fishing golf course ponds (as well as other ponds) for bass and fat bluegills. Loads of fun, great memories.

Concur with Mark re: return for the one that got away.

Cheers,
Jim

So are there any good ponds or the like here in the Md/Va area that are worth fishing once the weather warms up?

In Fairfax County I've caught bass on poppers/wooly buggers/clousers at Burke Lake, Lake Royal (currently under renovation, not sure it is fishable), and Lake Mercer. Folks also catch them at Gravely Point/The Duck Pond and at Four Mile Run. That said there are a ton of other locations. This year I'm expanding to the Potomac for smallmouth.
