I was hoping to do some smallie fishing on Friday but with the Little Falls gauge reading around 3.6', that's a little higher than I'm comfortable with in my normal locations. Anyone know if Riverbend can be waded at that level?

Sorry I missed this.

Yes, if you are willing to walk as far north as the natural gas pipeline (before the trail goes vertical), 3.5-3.6 shouldn't be a problem. Watch the turbidity reading, too, following the pop-up storms.

There's an excellent post on fishing at Riverbend Park from a year or two ago.  If you park at the Nature Center (not the visitor's center where the boat rentals are), then there's a connector trail (green blazes) leading from the "back" of the parking lot that connects to the Bootlegger's Trail (red blazes).  There's a little lending library box at the head of the connector trail, with nature books and such.  That connector trail hits Carper's Pond, and then goes down to the river.  It's about a mile, a 20-minute walk, from the parking lot to the river.  There's a spot right where the trail hits the river where you can wade a little bit.  It is pretty obvious because it has a fishing line disposal bin right on the trail.  I was hiking down there a week or two ago.  The pond doesn't look like much, especially because it was carpeted in duckweed, but the wading spot at the river looked really nice.  I didn't have a chance to fish it though, and I don't feel like shelling out the cash for a non-resident Maryland license to go back and give it a try.

you can fish the Potomac with a resident VA license up to about the 340 Bridge in Harpers

I live in DC and have 3 licenses!

Hit Riverbend this morning. I got there around 7 but probably should have been there by around 5. It got warm and bright FAST. I think it would have been easier in darker conditions. I managed a few sunfish but no bass. I did see a real beast but I wasn't able to entice it. The river can get bath water warm. Sometimes a little freaky when you're wet wading!

There were a lot of folks out enjoying a gorgeous morning. It's all good when you're out on the water!

I was out there from 7 this morning too and caught a nice smallmouth early in the day on a gold/copper Kreelex, but left by 11:30 when it was getting hot. Water is still just a tad high to get across to the islands and main channel from the VA side.

Owen, I think we may have chatted from afar yesterday! I was the guy you gave the hole/current you were fishing. Thanks again for that! I didn't hook up with any bass but went home and did some reading and have some better ideas of how to play those conditions next time!

Sounds great, Jamie! I'll look for you at Riverbend.
