Can anyone help me out with a good Canoe / Kayak Put-In Spot on Potomac for Shad Fishing? Is Fletcher's the best spot?

Taking my brother out this weekend. Will post an update on how it goes w pics.

Appreciate it.

If you can get your boats through the tunnel at Fletcher's that's your best bet on the Potomac.  I assume one can still launch from the beach there.   Not the Potomac itself but a tributary, the Occoquan River in VA has two kayak launch spots within a mile below the dam where the hickory shad congregate.  If you do go there, I should be there this weekend myself.

As Hermany mentioned, there is a new launch under the bridge on the Occoquan, on the downstream side of the old town.  You can also launch from Occoquan Regional Park at the parking area next to the water.  The fishing near the pedestrian bridge and upstream in the rock garden is phenomenal.

Think Sunday will be slow with the temperature and runoff?

Greg,

Is the Occoquan best fished by boat? I have found a little room on the Occoquan regional park side, for shore fishing, but be prepared for some rock hopping.

I see people fish the far bank, near the water treatment plant outlet, but I have not figured out how people get there without trespassing. Maybe there is a path on the far side of the pedestrian bridge I missed?

There's a park and very limited parking on the South/Town of Occoquan (Prince William County) side of the footbridge.  I thought I saw a sign last year saying that no fishing was allowed there, but Greg is right about the quality of fishing.  The North/quarry side (Fairfax County) of the bridge I'm uncertain, but skeptical about how public the access is.  I think boat is best there, particularly with fly rod, but the river isn't wide at that spot.
