Hey All,

A buddy of mine from PA and I are planning to take his drift boat out on the Shenandoah for smallmouth in a couple of weeks. I checked out the websites for Mossy Creek and Murray's and didn't see any info on a shuttle service for drift boats (i.e. they'll drive his jeep and boat trailer from the launch down to the take out). My buddy and I used one last weekend up in UP Michigan but I couldn't find anything in VA.

Careful if you ask the locals. My buds Ned, John, and Burt got in some trouble asking for a shuttle for their canoes. They sent me this pic of the guys house. That was in Georgia.

Indeed, that guy is a menace.  Always walking around, talking to trees, parking in the grass, etc.  He's a good fisherman though --

I'm actually not sure if there are any in this area. If there are, I'd love to know about them. Doing the two car shuffle can be tiresome for sure.

When I go down to the Shenandoah, we will meet at the recovery. Leave one car there and drive up to the launch. Drop the boat off and have one person drive the trailer back to the recovery and take the car parked down there back up to the launch.

Looking forward to hearing how you do. There are some great floats down there.

Front Royal Canoe won't drive your car, but they will pick you up at the take out spot and drive you to back to the launch. So if you have two people, one can stay with the boat while the other person gets shuttled back to pick up the car. Or you can hitch hike back...

Although I have no personal experience doing this - I've been told it works.    Try giving the local chamber of commerce or town hall a call and ask if they know any local avid outdoorsman/women who are retired.  It's worth a shot.  He or she may even do it for free

Or googlge taxi cab companies in the nearby area.  I have taken Keyser Yellow Cab from Keyser, WV back up river to Bloomington, MD after floating the North Branch.  It was a 6 mile ride and cost $8.

Hitchhiking is great, but you need to know what to say to people who may stop for you.

When they pull up and say "hello" you need to say "Oh, yeah.  You know, I didn't think I was rehabilitated but I guess they needed the extra bed".

GauchoFly once picked up a hitch hiker that accompanied him to Mossy Creek. Good story. Dude was a looney.

I'd call Murrays or email them, I'd bet Harry could find you someone.

Downriver Canoe will shuttle you and/or let you park at their lot near the takeout while you're on the river. Be careful with the drift boat, and spend some time talking to a canoe outfitter about the best section to float. Flows are low for this time of year, and there are a some rock ledges that span basically the entire river.
