Hi,

In a typical classroom activity that uses TI-Rovers, what’s the actual time that the TI-Rovers are actually moving?

Between the instruction, the coding and actual program execution, is it reasonable to estimate that the TI-Rovers are actually moving for about 15 min per 50 min class period (~30%)?

I know it depends on the specific activity and conferences/training sessions would be different, but I am working to estimate “active” vs “idle” time of the TI-Rover motors in a typical class.

Thanks,

- Harshal

I think out of my 80 min class period they are actually moving or executing code maybe 20 minutes.

Use Python to write a program that keeps track of the total number of minutes:seconds that Rover is 'actually moving' during a class period!

So about ~25% active.

Thanks for that data point, Becky.

I hate to sound like a lawyer with my answer, but it depends. If it is an introductory lesson, there will be less time of Rover moving, maybe 50% of class time. But if it is an application of the coding skills they have learned, it will be up to the full 45 minutes of class time.

Todd,

That’s a very useful perspective.

And it shows that TI-Rover’s wide applicability makes it difficult to map the usage to a specific scenario

That’s totally OK. It informs our modeling and tells us that we may likely need at least two models (“intro” and “expert” users) to accurately capture all the different ways that TI-Rover is used.

Thanks,

- Harshal

A Rover 'actively moving' for a full class period sounds dramatic. Leaves no time for programming. How about ~ 80%?

This will be great to try in class, Thanks John! I will keep you posted on the results Harshal. I bet the time is 30% give or take 5%.
