If it is your turn to pick up, and you want to see how many bags are currently in the pile, see the last entry in the "Total Remaining" column of the "Burlap Tracking" tab. Ladro
is currently delivering 100-130 bags per month, which might change. They will be delivering once or twice a month, until further notice. Track their deliveries on the spreadsheet!
The Good Shepherd Center is located at 4649 Sunnyside Ave N, Seattle WA 98103. Burlap will be stored on the south side of the land, on pallets covered with a tarp (see attached images for exactly where the burlap will be stored).
You will drive north on Corliss Ave N, until you are met with a locked gate/posts. Park as close to the gate as possible without blocking it as other people use this area to walk through. Get out of your vehicle, and go through the pedestrian entrance, turn left, keep
walking and keep your eyes peeled for a pile of burlap that will be on your left next to a dumpster. Carry the burlap out to your car. Please leave any burlap you do not take neatly stacked, and replace the tarp exactly as you found it. If you take all the
burlap, fold the tarp up neatly, and put a stone or weight on top of it. If there is no tarp, don't worry about the tarp! You can take 200 bags maximum, per pickup.
Selena would very much appreciate it, if you would enter the date and time you plan to get bags in the column labelled "Date and Time of Pickup", and how many bags you will take in the "Quantity of Burlap P/U", next to your organization
name, on the spreadsheet, in the "Burlap Tracking" tab ON THE MONDAY BEFORE YOU PICKUP BURLAP. Selena will be updating and checking the spreadsheets on Mondays.
If you end up taking a different amount of burlap than you originally planned, update the spreadsheet with the correct amount.
If for some reason it is impossible for you to figure out how to use this spreadsheet, you can email Selena the information at
selena...@tilthalliance.org,
but try, Selena's not looking for more work!
At the bottom of this email, and in the "Contact Sheet" tab of the spreadsheet, you will see the burlap phone tree. The order of the phone tree is the order which people will pick up burlap, it is organized from closest to the GSC, to furthest away. The
first garden to pick up was Freeway Estates Community Orchard, and the last will be New Holly Youth and Family P-Patch. We have capped the list at 24 gardens, so do NOT spread the word about this burlap list, we won't put anyone else on the list unless one of the
current gardens drops out!
The exact frequency of pick ups is uncertain, because you are free to take up to 200 burlap bags, or as little as you want. We think pickups will be about monthly. You can wait until there are 200 bags in the pile before picking up, but don't wait more than a couple weeks after the pile reaches 200 bags, that would be inconsiderate.
Remember the pickup window is Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 10am-4pm.
It is your job as a pick up person to 1) write in the spreadsheet the Monday before you come the time and date you will pickup, and how many bags you plan to take 2) take the burlap you want, deliver it to the garden that you specified, 3) update the spreadsheet
with how many bags you actually took, if different than you planned, and 4) contact the next person on the phone tree, tell them how many bags are left in the pile, and the date you picked the bags up.
Please call AND email the person after you on the phone tree in the next couple of weeks. I hope everyone on this phone tree will use the principle of over communication, and if they don’t get a response from the person after them, text them, leave a voicemail,
and email them to establish contact. Ask the person after you what their preferred means of communication is.
If there is a backup pick up person for the same garden, then it is the primary pick up person’s job to contact the backup person in the next couple of weeks to work out the logistics for pickup for your garden.
See map of all participating gardens attached! Keep close-to-you-gardens in mind for future collaborations!
The Garden Hotline is awesome for hosting this burlap pile. They provide all sorts of gardening support, check out their website:
