Renewal would cost $110 for 5 years.  But I don't see how the domain is going to do any good without Larry continuing to host the news server (a challenge) and website (long since defunct).  Hosting would cost a lot more than domain registration (and for the news server, would require not just site hosting, but full blown server hosting, I think).

We discussed alternatives on the -discussions group for a while, but no one had another alternative to this, and no one stepped up to say they would take over hosting.

The news server (pnews.thedbcommunity.com) and website (www.thedbcommunity.com) will both end, but as you see, we're here, on this google group, those of us who choose to be.  I assume google will outlive all of us, though heaven knows whether google groups will.

If Larry provides zip files of the groups and any website content, I can make those available on ParadoxCommunity.com - that will stay alive for as long as I can afford it.

I think that's the issue - maintaining a news (nntp) server is no simple matter in this day and age.  When discussed on the newsgroups, no one wanted forums, and that left google groups, basically.

Thank you, Jean.  I'm not anticipating not being able to afford ParadoxCommunity any time soon, just acknowledging the possibility.  (Uncertain times and all that.)  Am still in Utah.
