Rohan McLeod has emailed me the following message:

" I would like to make these Philosophy Forums at the pub (the pub may change) monthly events. Initially I think as a pure discussion group with no speaker but a pre-announced topic; to be decided at the end of the previous  meeting.
This Sunday (5th July, 7pm) as the first meeting of the "re-formed" Philosophy Forum ("re-formed" in the sense of restarted rather than improved) I thought I might lead a discussion on the particular meanings I give to the word "Philosophy":
ie 1/ Values, philosophies of life, political ideologies; ethical foundations.
2/ Problems of knowledge, it's nature , limitations;philosophical agnosticism ...epistemology.
3/ 'Ontology' as the nature of things and the definition of words representing them.
4/ 'Metaphysics' (as it is coming to be used) as a category for phenomena which have both material and phenomenological aspects, eg language.
I hope if there is time and interest to emphasise  the very  peculiar  approach, which I take , namely the very strong emphasis on clear language, definition and a direct approach to philosophical problems, which while acknowledging the theories , which have come down to us in the literature; put's aside the authority of their authors ! Not that I expect (as usual ) there will be much agreement with me; but I think it useful for people to confront 'agreeing to disagree' early on."

On Saturday I will be making the following counter-cultural assertions:

OPTIMISTS (Positive thinkers) expect all their hopes to be fulfilled.

But, as many of their hopes won’t be fulfilled, the Optimists are often disappointed,

and therefore UNHAPPY.

PESSIMISTS (Negative thinkers) expect none of their hopes to be fulfilled.

But, as many of their hopes will be fulfilled,

the Pessimists are often pleasantly surprised,

and therefore HAPPY.

Seventeen participated in the Agnostics Group's Zoom discussion.
I contended that Positive Thinking is a "death-trap", unless it is tempered by Negative Thinking.
