I have one and I think it is nice. I was on a hollow body kick for a while. Bought a bunch of different Gretsch, vintage, and other basses.
I wouldn't buy a hollow body (HB) unless it had some resonance or volume unplugged. Many of them don't. The JC bass does have some - though not the loudest of the pack, but it is nicely tuned and not real "Plonky".
It is also feedback resistant - something that you really need in an HB. It has a nice aggressive sound if you need it - but you can also lay it back.
A very playable long scale neck - a lot of the HB basses are short scale.
What finally got me to get it was the limited edition silver burst. I always wanted a silver burst bass. The bass is beautiful and glowed under the lights. When on stage and in the stand - people kept asking me to play the "Fiddle Bass". :-)
The build quality is also very good.
You do need to order the case seperately. Epiphone makes a very nice hardsheel case with a plush interior for it.
The only reason I don't use it is that I am a 5 string player. For that I do have a Washburn AB-95 that I think is of insane quality.
By the way - Jack does use this bass onstage. It is nice when the players actually use their "Signature Bass".
