Hi there, Pierre here from the Fremont/Milpitas border. I recently came across an individual who would like to donate some carboys and fruit press for the association's free use. Happy to be the holder of this equipment for the group's use. However, she Is wondering if there is a tax write off receipt from the association to be had. Any input would be much appreciated, thanks!

Hi Pierre,

I'm the treasurer and could certainly give you a receipt for a tax donation at fair market value if someone takes it on behalf of the club. However, I can't store anything more myself, so it would require someone else in the club -- possibly someone who already host extractors? -- to step up and do that. If someone does, let me know and I'l help with a receipt.

(However, it doesn't sound like this is normally the kind of thing a beekeeper would use, unless I'm misunderstanding what it is. It sounds like it would be more for home brewing?)

I use a fruit & sausage press to make wine and to press my honey out of frames (I scrape them into a nylon bag). It works OK for honey…It’s still a big machine. The writer (OP) might be talking about donating my type set-up…picture 1.

...but he might be talking about the kind of fruit press used at the next level for wine grapes and shredded apples (cider). I don’t think that would work for honey very well…picture 2

I've had people tell me that have top bar hives that they use it to press the honey out the honeycomb if they just want the honey only.

Before I switched to a different uncapping method, I used to get pounds and pounds of cappings and used

to squeeze honey out of them

Hi Rob,

I thought it could be used for pressing wax cappings to squeeze out any honey left during extractions. However, after picking this thing up, I realize that this thing has an 8 gallon capacity, probably a bit too large lol.

In any case, i’m happy to host for club member use for anyone willing to make the trip to Fremont/milpitas area. I’m sure a few folks here are also home brewers and wine makers- maybe Cysers or pyments ;)

Rob, I don’t think a receipt is necessary, but I think she’d be happy to receive one if we’re willing. Thanks!

Hey Philip,

Just search up Marchisio #30 fruit press. Just to clarify, I am allowing this to be a short term loaner piece of equipment for association members. However, It is currently unavail to borrow, as the previous owner forgot to give me the wood press blocks needed to brace the wood plates. I’ll be updating once I pick up the blocks and power wash the equipment.

Cheers,

Pierre

I use fruit press to squeeze out honey for small amount of honey.  Particularly helpful in winter when honey doesn’t flow well and you are extracting just a single frame.  Mimi

Since i harvest honey almost year around . I simply put all the capping in a very large bowl and let the bee go at it , they recycle it leaving only wax , no sweat ,  no pain gain for everyone and save me from buying one piece of equipment.
