How do people deal with the OID requirement for even 10 packs of FormicPro.

Order individual packs?  Biofuel Oasis?

I'm now two weeks behind when I thought I would be treating as a Mann Lake order was canceled without letting me know.....

Thanks for any insights.

Hi Steve, it's not difficult but you do have to jump through a hoop or two. Basically you have to call the Alameda County Ag inspector. They'll come out to your house look at your aviary, as in literally just look at your hives and not open anything, then you sign a piece of paper and they give you the permit.

I've been buying a 10-pack from Amazon (Mann Lake) without a problem.  Last order was March 3, 2025.

Mann Lake is abiding by the CA law, Amazon is not. Amazon has gotten into trouble for this in the past. Don't count on it being available through Amazon forever. I'm sure they will go along until they get caught again.

Getting an OID is not a big deal, although it does seem silly for beekeepers to have to do this, and not really in the spirit of the law and it's aims to reduce pesticide misuse.

I have decided to make my own ! Only draw back buy small quantity and store it outside away from the stricture as formic acid has been known to explode when getting old , DPR is concerned about formic pro as a bee treatment but allow the sale of pesticide which stay active for month at the b in box store ( money talk ? )

Yeah, the pesticide rules are crazy, and Neonics, despite word that they have been restricted in CA, can still be widely used. Follow the money for sure.

What we need is bees that don’t have to be treated for Varroa.
Bees that control the mite population on their own.
It would save a lot of time and expense

OID or OPID stands for Operator’s Identification or Operator’s Permit Identification. It will be followed by a number.
