Swarm Calls to the Hotline Volunteers so far this year is 55.
A fair number of those have moved on before they could be collected.
Sung's been pretty busy.   He'll probably sail right past the 60 plus he collected last year.
(Sung, if you find yourself overloaded, we're OK with your referring callers to the hotline ;-)

Thanks Sung!

1) I usually do a temperament test before proceeding with or without beesuit.  I run a stick through middle of hive - if bees doesn’t react to me but just cluster back, I would proceed without suit.  If they start buzzing around me or try to sting me, I put on a suit.
I noticed during fast forward Sung was pulling bees out of his hair, possibly stung him.  Some people don't have much reaction to bee sting.  The more I get stung the more serious the reaction, so in order to continue beekeeping I avoid being stung when possible.

2) Usually I don’t spend time looking for Queen.  If perchance I see her I would cage her.

**3)** Most important WAIT until it’s dark before taking box away!   If you take box away during daylight foragers still out will come back to original swarm location and you’ve left homeowner with bee problem still. The amount of bees left is NOT enough to start a hive yet a secondary beekeeper has to come clean up afterwards.

Also only 4 swarms for me.  Still nothing in my long hive.  1st swarm was on frames so I started a new Langstroth hive.  2nd swarm was small and I wasn't certain it would have survived but it left my long hive next day.  Same thing with another decent size swarm last week.  This week I thought I caught a swarm but upon taking box home in evening, the swarm had left my box and only handful of stragglers were in there.  Still awaiting a swarm to fill up my long hive.  Maybe I’ll shake some nurse bees and put in a cage mated Queen in my long hive for few days before releasing her.

Bee Wise,
Mimi
