The weather is good and awesome. Today I checked some of my hives. They are still going very strong.

Bee happy 😊

Same here in North Berkeley -- I'm having trouble shrinking them down, because they still look like they did in mid-September...

I’ve had what looks like some pre-swarm behavior going on here in Livermore. I’m just gonna let ‘em keep doing their bee thing as I don’t dare attempt to split this time of year.

Yes several hives did swarm recently.   Rain brings nectar flow and despite the cold nights bees seem to be swarming.  Last year 2 nucs swarmed/reQueened successfully in Dec!   It’s currently a swarm Nov.

2 of my hives near high and mac Arthur are filling with brood after struggling through the summer.

A swarm just moved into one of my hives about 3 weeks ago!  They seem to be doing well!

Hello from Fruitvale,

My hive also appears to be growing and very active. Is it recommended to shrink the hive down given the approaching winter or allow them to continue to flourish given the late summer vibes?

All the best
Drew

Give them enough room so they don’t swarm but keep them within 1-2 boxes.   Smaller nuc size hive requires wrap and other warming techniques to get them through cold winter temperatures.  Fruitvale area most likely require moisture barrier for winter but a local beek would know best.  Mimi
