tesseract.exe crashes for japanese

I just installed the FreeOCR 5.41. As per the instructions, I downloaded a traineddata file for japanese(vertical). But when I run OCR with it, pop-up appears informing that "tesseract.exe has stopped working". None of the pre-installed languages have this issue. What can I do about this?
