Compilation Error Tesseract 4.0 - macOS High Sierra

I'm having trouble compiling Tesseract 4.0. I have all dependencies installed. The error occurs when after I run ./autogen.sh in the terminal--that works fine. But when I run ./config I get this error:

Ok. Not sure what this means so I open the configure executable and I find a . on line 5. I comment it out, then re-run. Now I get this error:

I reinstalled gcc, but did not fix it.

and your system reports:

Thanks. Anyone know how I can fix that? I have gcc/Xcode installed, not sure why its not finding the command.

That's the code recommended on the tesseract help page.

What is weird is that it seems I do have g++ installed.

If I type  in the terminal 'g++ -v', this is what it prints:

configured with: --prefix=/Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/usr --with-gxx-include-dir=/usr/include/c++/4.2.1


Apple LLVM version 9.0.0 (clang-900.0.38)


Target: x86_64-apple-darwin17.4.0


Thread model: posix


InstalledDir: /Applications/Xcode.app/Contents/Developer/Toolchains/XcodeDefault.xctoolchain/usr/bin


I also ran a simple hello world program called hw.cpp. I can run g++ hw.cpp just fine.

But for some reason it won't create an executable? Help!

do a brew install gcc@6
it will install the right version of the compiler
