How can I limit tesseract lib's recogniton to a limited set of expressions?

I'm trying to use tesseract lib to detect a limited set of expressions / sentences. Is it possible to this? Simply using the code as the examples show in the wiki gives lots of garbage on the recognized strings. If I could limit it to a known set, it would be perfect for my project.
