Is anyone out there having issues with the Internet? We have had Internet issues for the last 2 weeks. I run Speedtests and they look OK around 600 to 700 Mbps for our wired network, wireless sometimes drops down to around 40Mbps but is mostly around 200Mbps.
The issue is we have to refresh a webpage 2 or 3 times before it will display and it seems slow. Google Mail is also affected as well as other sites.
N4L and our MSP have been looking into it but nothing definitive has been found.
Thanks in advance.

2 weeks???? I would be jumping up and down and pulling my hair out, sounds like an DNS issue to me but maybe get the expert N4L engineers to sort it out :)

Have you used Wireshark before? You could put that on an effected pc and have a look at the network traffic to see what's up.  I agree that it sounds like a slow or misconfigred dns server (possibly with stale records) that is causing trouble.

Jeffrey.

We had a similar issue - took over a month to resolve. It turned out to be a rouge range extender purchased by a neighbour which was interfering and dropping the wifi speeds down to 40Mb or under. It was found by vodaphone (One NZ) as it was also interfering with the cell network.

Or maybe a rouge DNS/DHCP server like a wifi extender/Ap/Hotspot device plugged in somewhere. Wireshark is your friend.

or I've seen stuff like that with broadcast storms or way too much multicast

Most wireless solutions have the ability to detect and report on Rogue APs...

As with what everyone has has mentioned, my first thought also is DNS...are you running DNS on the Fortigate or on an AD or something else?

Simon Wright

You would think all the money put into the Ruckus platform and Fortigate that these issues would be easy to find?

Some of the imported wifi extenders work on different frequencies so they will not appear as rouge AP's which make them hard to find even though the frequencies, they are broadcasting on are close to the official ones for 2.4G or 6G MHz ones used by wifi.

Maybe the problem is not with the Firewall or Wifi...
I understand Atholl has made some good progress but will leave it up to him to share.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Between Clayton our MSP and myself we are hoping that we have resolved the issue. It looks like our DNS Forwarders were not working correctly. When I put the Google DNS IP address in our DNS Server network cards as an alternative DNS Server instead of just our local DNS Servers the issue seems to have been resolved. Our MSP also purged our local DNS Server cache. We will be sending out a survey Monday morning to check with the students to see how the response is like on the Internet.
