vehicle / room bookings solutions

anyone have a good suggestion for vehicle / room bookings?

I've used a basic mrbs install with a generic user login forever but there has been a request for better auth to stop people messing with each other's bookings...

I've looked at rooms and resources in Google Apps, but that looks too tricky for some of my users.

mrbs can support Google auth but it's proving a bit of a puzzle to get going..

what do you do?

For room bookings we use Kamar. the Library is split into two rooms/resources and we used to split our computer labs when we had them into two half periods.

We have a room/resource booking system.

Uses KAMAR for staff authentication, pulls in school events so the booker can see what else is on.

set up different booking times for different types of resources ( eg classroom/period based or hourly based for vans etc..)

approval rules per resource.

For rooms or a bag of 5 chromebooks (we have 6 bags available) we use Kamar as the timings are for those things that fit around the class timetables and the teacher is less likely to book the wrong time during the day.

For a student needing to borrow a device for a day or part thereof there is a Google Form a teacher needs to fill out (or a note from a reliever so we can fill out the form for them which feeds a spreadsheet and sends emails).

For vehicles, auditorium and green room we use google calendar. The teacher creates an event for themself and then adds the room/resource. An online calendar just showing the resources is helpful for staff when planning events.

Resources/rooms can be set up in your admin console and all Google calendars will then have them as an option when you book an event. This booking will be visible to others who want to plan to book the space/resource (controllable by OU of course) These can be set in 15 min time slots. The calendar will just show available/busy for those resources.

The other option we used at my last school was kamar bookings.

Both these options minimise workload as they are already being used so aren't an extra for colleagues to learn.

Is there any movement from Google to have smaller time periods than 15 minutes available for booking appointments in google calendar? We would like to use Google meets where parents can make appointments through teachers' google calendar for our parent teacher interviews. The problem is we have 5 minute interview slots for our subject teachers. The 15 minute minimum makes it impossible to use Google calendar to schedule  - unless I'm missing something?

Hi Craig,

If you use the recently updated appointment slots in Calendar (which now auto add the meet link) you can select 5 min slots and share the booking page with whanau.

An example is the one I have set up for my office hours, just scroll through as i am travelling to school workshops this week so it looks a little full and you can have a look at the new UI (which you can set up in your calendar settings) at bit.ly/stevescalendar

Google Calendar supports down to the minute appointments/events, though I've not used their own booking page/system.

I wrote a web tool using Calendar API that allows parents to book events with teachers (within "windows" of availability) that uses exclusively Google Calendar as the information source. We had our first round yesterday and all went well, something like 1400 7 minute Google Meets all scheduled in Calendar without teachers doing anything other than "Joining Meet".

Changes in the near future will be to be able to book all of a parent's appointments on one page so they can schedule them sequentially (currently it's only booking with a single teacher at once, much like Google's own booking page but without staff interaction).

It does use delegated credentials though (as it creates the calendar for the teachers and populates it with default events/breaks and by inviting parents/students as guests) so it's not as simple as just "here you go".

Once I've fleshed it out a little I'd be keen on gauging interest from other schools.
