We are looking into lockdown systems and I was wondering what y'all have or do when a lockdown is initiated... does someone ring the bell in a certain pattern, do you have a message that plays,etc...

The front runner we are looking at is the DialPlan system https://www.dialplan.co.nz/solutions.php?school#lockdown

But I want to get an idea of what else is out there.

Is anyone here using the DialPlan solution?

Simon.

Hi Simon,

We are only just about to go VoIP finally but also sometime in the future will look to make changes.

Currently its a bit manual, we use our fire evac system - where you can upload custom wav files into the amplifiers or use their preset ones (Pertronic for us). We have a few key locations for lockdown buttons, it sounds a specific alarm sound and has a voice message. We then also activate a voicemail for all incoming calls, and a website banner is preset to go as well. We leave it sounding for the entire duration of lockdown. This can be traumatic/sickening for some after 3-4 hours as we've had before. We don't use it as a custom PA but it can do this.

Probably need remote/phone app access to activate/PA tho again its not always a guarantee that those with access will have their device.

We have a full lockdown door system with Salto; when we practise, we talk over the fire PA system and the IP phones to announce that we are in lockdown.  Once we move to online PABX, we will install some IP speakers/core IP phones and send an announcement to that, as well as the fire speakers using an algo converter.

Thanks
Barb

Thanks all for the replies,

Being able to control door locks as well would be ideal, unfortunately we still have to deal with keys, though modern electronic door locks could be in the cards in the not too distant future.
Would be nice to get the 5YA back to pre CHCH earthquake levels, then we may actually be able to do some real improvements around here.

Does anyone else have in place auto altering staff (SMS)? auto update website, post to social media, update phone message - similar to what Matt has...

Simon.

I know that KAMAR has a built in Emergency/Lockdown area, which includes the ability to make an API call to an external server ( or internal ).
The last time I looked, KAMAR can only make one API call, so you could put a middle API on your own servers to accept KAMAR's API request, trigger automation within your school (locks, lights, bells, https://www.home-assistant.io/ requests.. ) and notify our system (if you use it ).

In our SchoolBridge platform, we also have an Emergency/Lockdown/Evacuation system, and we can accept the API call from KAMAR to automatically trigger this.

From ours, We trigger for STAFF - web and all alerts, the ability for staff to indicate their status, (unsafe/ safe/ offsite / trip), Students, Staff, Caregivers/External people.
Staff can update their status from the browser and/or the app.
Communicate with SLT, and SLT can trigger staff-wide broadcasts.
Share location on a live map etc...
You can trigger this in SchoolBridge of course, if you don't trigger it from KAMAR.

For the Students/Caregivers/Public, they won't see this internal process, but you can set a different 'alert banner' that will show on the Website, SchoolBridge and SchoolPoint (based on what you use).
You can set up templates for different kinds of emergencies, and customise at the time of use.
You can then use the Alert Messages area to send out the push notifications and/or SMS messages

At home, I've used Home-Assistant to trigger a number of small things, alarm, smart-lights turn on and red etc.. dumb things that annoy the wife.
