Has anyone looked into creating an open source App for Taiga? The pricing model of the available app is ridiculous.
I think Taiga could really profit for the possibility to use it on mobile devices.

I think Rüdiger refers to the mobile app, not the core platform.

The only think we can say at the moment is that we would like to come to a pricing agreement with app creator Techfunder.

Yes I mean the mobile Android App. I think it shouldn't be to hard to create such an app as it just works online and the Taiga API is well documented.
It would be nice if it works offline at least for reading though.
Any idea where we could find someone who could code this? I would also be willing to contribute financially if in the end we have an open source app.

Hi Rüdiger

First of all, thanks for offering financial help for such a project, we really appreciate it.

For a mobile app, Taiga's API is all that anyone would need technically but not product-wise, I'm afraid. You are right when you say that the API is well documented and we have proof of that since the TaigaApp developers didn't contact us when they were developing such app, the docs were enough!

But developing a Taiga mobile app requires proper product design and a financial investment that we can't currently make since we have other priorities towards the core platform.

For instance, we stealthily released another minor release today, you can already enjoy it if you use tree.taiga.io. If you use a private instance, you will have to wait for your Taiga sysadmin to update it. In this release you will see we completely revamped the whole creation lightbox for all items, we now allow US to be linked to Epic from witihin the US itself. We have due dates management to be 100% flexible, we have added a super-feature called (add issues to sprints), we now have support for RTL languages (Farsi/Persian being the first language to be added) and we also included many stability and performance stuff. So, a ton of work to continue to evolve our plataform, which has already enjoyed three amazing minor releases this year.

If we look back to this post https://blog.taiga.io/taiga-plans-for-2018.html we can easily see we are more than halfway through that list (way more if you take into account not all features are created equal) so in a month or so we should be ready to decide what to do next for the rest of year, we will surely want to have an open debate on this topic by then. In the meantime, please feel free to comment on this as much as you wish, of course.

Best
Pablo
Co-CEO of Taiga

Hi Pablo

Thank you for your message and showing where the priorities of the taiga development are right now.
I'm running my own taiga installation and I will update it now that you told about the new features.
So I might look at getting some friends together to put together an open source Android app for Taiga. It was important for me to know if there are already other people on such a project so that the effort could be channeled in the right way.
That is after all the beauty of open source that you can adopt it to your needs. (As I have already done some tweaks to taiga to get notifications to matrix/riot)

Thank you
Rüdiger
