Hi Guys,

It looks like users e-mail addresses are case sensitive which seems like a bit of a bug.

To reproduce this issue please follow the below steps.

1. Have a user create an account with the email address Em...@domain.com
2. Add the user em...@domain.com as a member to your project. This creates a grayed out user in the project an also does not send out an email notification.

Cheers,
Dave

Hi David,

Thank you very much for your feedback and for using Taiga.

The "official version" says that emails are case sensitive so it's an intentional thing, for most of the email servers (postfix by default do it) distinguish addresses with capital letters: the user te...@server.example is not the same than Te...@server.example, if we allow case-insensitive emails users wouldn't have problems when authenticating but email notifications would fail. This is why we decided to guarantee the consistency of the system this way.

If you are curious, according to the RFC 5321 section 2.3 11 (or RFC 2821)

The local-part of a mailbox MUST BE treated as case sensitive. Therefore, SMTP implementations MUST take care to preserve the case of mailbox local-parts. Mailbox domains are not case sensitive. In particular, for some hosts the user "smith" is different from the user "Smith". However, exploiting the case sensitivity of mailbox local-parts impedes interoperability and is discouraged.

Regards!,

We have also added a notification on login/register/invitation indicating if the user is using capital letters, it's still in master branch but soon it will be merged to stable and deployed.
