After a 7 years break in releases, Tagaini is back! This version is
limited to a source and Linux binary release, and is intended for
enthusiasts to try and confirm nothing has been fundamentally broken
before 1.2.0 is released to a wider audience:

The biggest updates of this release are a long-overdue port to Qt5,
and a better way to deal with entries deleted from the JMdict. These
two issues, along with me getting busy with other things, are what
held new releases for so long.

A few annoying bugs have also been fixed, notably the one that made
part-of-speech unusable.

Please test and report any issue (or success!) on this list if you
can. I am particularly interested in updating the Windows and Mac OS
build instructions, so if people have succeeded building this version
on these OSes it would be great to hear about it.

Thanks and sorry for the long hiatus. Enjoy Tagaini again!

I wasn't expecting the RSS feed from the Tagaini website to revive after so long!

I wanted to say thanks for making not only a great dictionary software, but also an invaluable tool for learning Japanese. The flashcard support and quick lookup of related words/compounds has been a major help to solidifying my first 500-600 kanji a few years ago ; at that time a lot of the new words I encountered (and added to my study list) were on a PC, sometimes offline.

In any case, no major issues to report on Arch so far, congrats on the Qt5 port!

Cheers,
François-Xavier

Thanks for testing! I'm pleasantly surprised that the RSS feed is still working. I have been able to confirm that things were fine on Windows as well and set up builds for all supported OSes with Github Actions, so hopefully we will have fresh binaries and a 1.2 release quite soon. Then I can finally start tackling the huge task of modernizing the program a bit...

Also really happy to hear this program was useful for your studies as that's the whole point after all. ^_^;

Cheers,
Alex.
