Hello,
I am trying to model a LAN both physically (EtherNet connection) and logical (VLANs) using SysML. For some routers I have one WAN port (no problem) and multiple identical LAN ports (multiplicity >4).
How can I model the connection to a specific LAN port?
Thanks in advance

To model a specific configuration use an Internal Block Diagram (IBD) and create a part (typed by the router «block») and 4 parts (typed by whatever 'client' «block» you are connecting it to). You will need to model the 4 ports separately. You can then connect each port to their equivalent on each 'client' part

See Figure 9.11 on P93 of the SysML spec

You will find some useful patterns for modeling logical and physical ports and the protocol stacks that implement interfaces in the attached paper.

Thanks, Peter

Thanks for the hint James.
I did not have the example in my mind. I hoped there is a solution which does not require to model all variants of number of ports as I would like to use this for similar applications with more diversity.

Torsten

Hello Peter,
thanks for the paper, very good.
As a beginner I would have tried it differently, forgetting that the OSI layers exist orthogonal to each other.

Thanks
Torsten
