GSoC 2015 - Cylindrical algebraic decomposition algorithm

Hello everyone !

My name is Darshan Chaudhary and I have been actively contributing to the community for some time now. While going through the ideas page, I came across the CAD algorithm. I read up on it a little and I found it interesting, something I would love to learn more about and if given a chance, implement for SymPy too.

However, since it is a new addition to the library entirely, I do not have existing code to read or issues to fix. There is much I need to learn before I would be able to write code but I hope to do the learning before the coding period actually starts. Also, I was thinking about making a work plan for the summer and working out the scope of the project since the ideas page isn't that descriptive. This puts me in the need of a mentor who could guide me in the months leading upto the program and hopefully during it also.

As far as I know, none of the mentors know much about the algorithm.
Maybe Raoul knows it (I don't know if he is willing to mentor,
though). Likely whoever mentors the project will have to learn it with
you. I definitely would like to learn more about the algorithm (which
isn't to say I would necessarily be the mentor; it really depends on
what other projects are proposed).

I would start by getting all the resources listed on the ideas page,
getting a good grasp on how the algorithm works, and maybe seeing if
you can run through the algorithm "by hand" using SymPy for some
simple example (that will also give you an idea of what sub pieces are
missing from SymPy).
