I propose an idea to identify certain key algorithms within sympy and provide support for acceleration on a GPU/SIMD unit if available on target device. One idea could be providing support for pyopencl to support writing of simulations that could make use of a GPU on the system. The idea sounds rudimentary but could be built up on. Admins kindly suggest.

You may want to get familiar with SymPy before proposing new ideas. I'm pretty sure that the majority of computations in SymPy are not even transferable to what a GPU has to to offer.

Here are the GSoC Student instructions for our org: https://github.com/sympy/sympy/wiki/GSoC-2016-Student-Instructions

I think you'll have a better chance if you have a look at our ideas page and get inspiration from there.
