Sir,

I am, Aravind Reddy, a third year B-Tech student in Computer Science in IIIT-Hyderabad. I will be applying for Gsoc 2016 from Sympy. As the time for proposal submission is approaching I have some doubts regarding that. I am posting as this may help other students who also have the same doubts.

I have gone through some other proposals. What I found there is a lot of contributions to the organisation. As I am new to the open source contribution, I am new to the org and I barely have 2 pull requests. So with this profile am I worthy to apply for Gsoc? Is it necessary that we have to contribute to the org from far before or the work from the day of orgs release is enough?

regards,
Aravind.

Aravind,

You are only required to submit a single patch to prove that you have a feeling for our development workflow. We will judge you primarily on your proposal quality. If you write a great proposal you can get selected with only a single patch. It doesn't hurt to try submitting more patches especially ones that are related to your proposal as it will help you get a better idea of what should be in your proposal. It will also allow you to engage directly with the community.

Hope that helps,

Jason
