Again, a big huge thank you to all the volunteer efforts over the weekend. I'm just amazed at how much stuff got done, and what a difference it has made already. I got out this afternoon/evening to go for a reconnaissance grooming effort and expected the worst, but actually, the shade fencing is already doing its job very well. The main thing for us groomers is that there is at least a strip of snow, or frozen water type of strip to go up beyond Point-A, so that the grooming equipment and machines don't get completely battered and broken from having to go over bare ground and rocks -- and it's just smoother. Well, it was in great shape and looks to hold from here on out. The shade is totally preserving the snow and it wasn't bad at all. So, we all appreciate that so much!
We're down to only our old Viking snowmobile, which is just a major effort to deal with in funky, deep snow. It took some evasive maneuvering, but eventually the "pass" was made and the snomo was able to get through. Long story short, there's a semblance of a groomed classic track on the upper trails along with a maneuvering lane, and the lower road out to the end of the meadow is rolled and wide, but maybe a bit lumpy and bumpy. We just need to groom a few more laps this week, and it'll be good for both skate and classic.
Camp May Rd. is groomed for both, so it's good for pre-season technique work. I'd say go up for good classic touring on the upper trails, but enjoy a return trip home on the meadow and lower road. We'll get things smoothed out before next weekend, and another predicted storm.
Thanks again to everyone, especially the super-tough ladies who organized the fencing work, and got the ski kids out today, and also all of the groomer guys who got the equipment out, dug stuff out (40" of heavy snow) and started packing. That's a lot of things to do!
Skiing is super awesome for early November! Go enjoy this early start to the season!!!
