Greetings neighbors,

At our January meeting, SWNA will be voting on renewing our organization membership to the South Knoxville Neighborhood & Business Coalition (SKNBC). If our membership chooses to remain a member organization (and I hope we do), we will also vote on 2 members to represent SWNA. I will be putting my name in the hat as one of SWNA’s representatives. We are looking for another individual who is interested in serving as a representative.

SKNBC is a collaborative, umbrella organization made up of South Knoxville neighborhoods. Founded in 2009, it exists to strengthen communication and relationships between our neighborhoods and city, county, and state leaders. South Knoxville is home to many unique and vibrant neighborhoods—and we’re stronger when we share ideas, experiences, challenges, and opportunities with one another.

Over the years, SKNBC has played an active role in shaping South Knoxville by weighing in on important issues such as:
  • The South Waterfront code
  • RECODE Knoxville
  • The Henley Bridge closure and its impact on Chapman Highway businesses
  • Bicycle lane inclusion on the Henley Bridge rebuild
  • Political forums and candidate meet-and-greets
  • Advocating on the behalf of specific neighborhoods

SKNBC also brings neighbors together through periodic social gatherings that help build relationships across South Knoxville.

To serve as an SWNA representative, you must:
  • Be an active SWNA member
  • Attend monthly SKNBC meetings as you are able
  • Share SKNBC news and updates at SWNA meetings

This is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact, stay informed, and help ensure our neighborhood’s voice is heard.

If you are interested in serving, you can speak up at our next neighborhood meeting on January 26th. If you are interested, but unable to make it to our next meeting, pop me an email - jto...@bellsouth.net.

Cheers!
Janice

Hi Tiana,

Glad to hear you are interested in SKNBC - you could be SWNA’s 2nd rep :)

Also, as an added bonus, I’m certain the SKNBC folk would like to hear about what’s happening with the Neighborhood Advisory Board,

Hope to see you at Monday’s SWNA meeting…

Janice
