Hello all,

Here is Nottingham we are hosting our annual 'Swift Homecoming Parade' with a local school.  We work with a different primary school each year to increase our reach and impact.  This year we will be engaging 600 pupils, teachers and their assistants (plus parents) to create banners and placards etc for a parade around local streets and to speak up about swifts (we are also doing assemblies, etc).

Alongside this years parade we plan to invite pupils from all of our 3 schools - 1500+ in total to write a postcard to our city council planning department requesting they make it compulsory for all new new developments to have a swift brick(s) - with the aim of inviting the 'eco groups' in each school to hand them to the council in person during swift awareness week.

We have kept this postcard very simple - given that we are engaging primary school pupils.  See attached.

We welcome advice on this - do you think we should include some extra information?  We plan to create a covering letter from us and pupils to accompany the postcards too + do a press release, etc.

We welcome your thoughts and ideas.

Thanks,

Trish / Nick

That sounds like a brilliant project! One thing I would suggest is changing the wording on asking for swift bricks. You want a ratio of 1:1 SBs to dwellings but have them grouped rather than one in each building.
Good luck with the parade - you’re doing a fantastic job of raising awareness.
Best wishes,
Helen Lucy.

The people on this group never cease to amaze me with your passion for swifts and the innovative ways and actions you take to engage with our communities to promote swift conservation. Well done Nottingham.

Thanks Helen - that's a good point - we shall adjust our wording.

What a wonderful idea Nottingham!!!  We also visit schools so this could be something to look in to for next year.
Would love to see the parade in action!
