Well done Nick, I hope you're delighted with this result....you've worked so very hard to chivvy us into these weeks over the years.

THANK YOU!
Sorry we can't do much these days as major health issues with my heart and old age has snook.up on us BUT for the first time in 4 years we have two.of our seven boxes occupied again...it's so wonderful to sit in the garden watching the birds come and go plus we've got screaming parties of 6 to 8 birds swooping trough the garden over the pond!  First time in 4 years having had all boxes full for 40+ years...

We simply love having them back at the house...

Best Regards
Tony & Anne

No worries Tony and great you have swifts again.
I heard this morning that someone has had a chick fall out of a nest box on his house near here and I guess there will be more......

Great to see you being interviewed for this piece, Nick. Lovely interview!

FYI everyone – the Guardian newspaper quoted fact/stat is misleading on partner fidelity, since the figure quoted didn’t take account of bird mortality i.e. Swifts which didn’t come back at all.

On pair fidelity, the research paper says: Of 55 consecutive year pairings, 94.5% remained faithful and 5.5% divorced.

The paper is open access and so I have attached it for anyone who would like to delve into the science.

Thanks, Laurinda, I’m relieved to hear that. I’m always telling people that swifts pair for life (unless, obviously, one of them doesn’t make it back on migration). I do stress that they are site faithful, but being faithful to a nest isn't quite so romantic!
