Hi all

I was wondering what thoughts people had regarding this swift box please.  I suspect this has come up in conversation before and has possibly been tweaked - can't quite remember.

Thank you
Cally

Amongst other things, there are 2 considerations when assessing a swift box:
1 what do the Swifts think
2 what do we think about the design, aesthetics etc
I am sure Swifts might like it, but, as with beauty, aesthetics is in the eye of the beholder .

Hi Cally/ all,

Note that unusually this box attaches to the soffit board rather than the wall.

Therefore it's only suitable where the soffit board is wide, at least 20cm from the look of it (I can't find the dimensions),

and the soffit board is sturdy enough that it's not going to sag after a wooden box is attached to it for many years!

All the best,

Mike

Also it says on their website:
"...can be deployed on almost any building, and may be utilised as part of a new build initiative or retrofitted to existing properties"

Which is really not true as it's only suitable for buildings with soffits, and it's not even suitable for all of those.

The box is ok but the wording therefore needs changing.

If it's "deployed" by fixing to a wall, the exposed flat roof would then make it vulnerable to predators perching on top, water damage etc.

Hi All,

The box does look good (it's copied a lot of the Peak Box features) but, as has been pointed out, it is restricted to being placed under deep and sturdy eaves! Not many properties have these. Does anybody want to feed back our conclusions to the company and the issues if the box is installed other than under deep eaves? I think we should but not sure how well received it will be!

Hi Louise/ all,

I'm happy to contact Arx Naturalis as I have done previously after meeting them at a conference -

they have already amended their range after discussions with SLN members.

I will make contact next week unless someone else wishes to.

All the best,
Mike
