Dear all,
a colleague suggested in issue 57 of the GH Specification repository to open a repository named https://github.com/swhid/awesome-swhid

as a way to track all the repositories, tools and resources that are related to the SWHID standard.

This looks like a great idea and aligns well with how open ecosystems grow and engage their communities, and we're all for encouraging contributions, discoverability, and learning around SWHIDs.

So I propose to proceed with the creation, unless someone sees strong reasons not to do so: please chime in by the end of next week!

If we go forward, the structure would be something like the following, and it would be great if somebody could help draft a first version of the text.

awesome-swhid/
├── README.md    # Main list of awesome resources
├── CONTRIBUTING.md   # Guidelines for contributing
└── .github/
└── ISSUE_TEMPLATE.md  # Optional: for suggesting new entries

All the best

Hello Roberto, all

Congrats on the ISO/IEC approval.

My community (of energy system modelers committed to open science) have just been debating a very similar topic: how best to list the modeling frameworks that fall under our paradigm and domain. Here are two observations:

  • despite the wishes of some to have a central repository, that is just not going to happen — indeed we (systems modelers) live in a multi‑polar word

  • the design and placement of the listings are key: some are highly‑structured, some descriptive, some more visual, some cater to sub‑communities, and so on

Here are some examples:

To which I could add Wikidata — which is quite capable of recording that kind of information in a very well maintained space too.

None of these listings services run on GitHub, I note.

By the way, I would much prefer the SWHID standard to be licensed MIT OR CC0‑1.0, rather than Community‑Spec‑1.0.

with best wishes, Robbie

Instead of "awesome", could we simply name the repo "uses" or something more neutral?

I have a general negative reaction on such "awesome" lists, when they are simply a list of entries, without any curation or evaluation of each entry. Unless the plan is to actually do evaluations.
